clouds or bodies

week's little recap, recap, recap, recap...:

Prof Granata: There is no artificial intelligence; there is only artificial agency. Agency that, of course, can be doubted at times because of the massive amount of data produced by humans, and by the systems humans have built to keep generating more data.

Also, a quick post-it note: data and platforms are not entirely immaterial, they have structure and material bases. This is from Prof Grohmann. We only think of their structures when we have perhaps technical issues. There is a world of batteries and cables and processors, storage...

Information, after all, is not only immaterial. Just as our thoughts are not always immaterial. They come with a body, and this is me. I never consider my work with words and images as something abstract from my own bodily experience

Here are the massive data centers around the world, and in Toronto. We might visit one soon: The body of big data. https://www.datacentermap.com/canada/toronto/

and a satirical campaign, I like the humour of it. https://savethe.ai/ "uses humour to connect our personal needs for Earth’s resources with the evidence of just how much of these resources are now being claimed for the data centres running generative AI."
